NUM signed a three-year wage agreement with Petra Diamonds.


The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has signed a three-year wage agreement with Petra Diamonds Limited at Cullinan Diamond Mine, Finsch Diamond Mine Kimberley Ekapa Mining JV and Kiffiefontein JV operations in South Africa.

The wage agreement is effective from the 1 July 2017 and shall remain in force until 30 June 2020.

The parties agreed to basic salaries with effect from 1 July 2017 until 30 June 2020 as follows.
 
The three-year wage agreement with Petra Diamond Limited provides for annual increases to NUM members in the region of 9% to 10% for year one and 8.5% for years two and three.

1. Living out allowance

1. 1 July 2017-30 June 2018= R1, 200.00
2. 1 July 2018-30 June 2019= R1, 350.00
3. 1 July 2019-30 June 2020= R1, 500.00

2. Home Ownership Scheme Subsidy

1. 1 July 2017-30 June 2018= R1, 300.00
2. 1 July 2018-30 June 2019= R1, 400.00
3. 1 July 2019-30 June 2020= R1, 500.00

3. Salary agreement EX GRATIA PAYMENT

The parties agreed to an ex gratia equal to 50% of one month's individual salary at Koffiefontein Diamond Mine and 70% of one's individual basic salary at Kimberley Ekapa Mining, Finsch Diamond Mine, and Cullinan Diamond Mine.

4. Maternity Leave.

The parties agreed that with effect from 1 July 2017, maternity leave will be increased to three months 100% of basic salary and one month unpaid.

5. Leave Days

The parties agreed that both Kimberley Ekapa Mining JV and Koffiefontein JV leave days for five days shift employees will be increased to 21 days working days per annum.

Our members are excited and they gave us the mandate to sign this agreement,” said William Mabapa, NUM Chief Negotiator at Petra Diamonds.
