NUM Youth Structure supports the 16 days of activism against women and children abuse

 

The National Union of Mineworkers Youth Structure (NUM-YS) supports the 16 days of activism against women and children abuse and stands in solidarity with all South Africans against this repulsive ubiquitous tendency.

Statistics have shown us that women and children are not safe in the home or family environment since they are usually abused by the same people that are expected to protect them i.e. lovers, parents, and relatives.

"Statistics have also shown that women abuse in the workplace in the form of sexual harassment is a cause for concern. Sexual harassment shows itself in two forms being quid pro quo and a hostile work environment. The NUM-YS stands against all types of women and child abuse be it human trafficking, sex slavery, physical or financial abuse or any other form," said Bonginkosi Mrasi, NUM Youth Structure National Secretary.

"We encourage society to be their "sister's keeper" and we would like to encourage women to report any form of abuse to the relevant authorities. We would like to request the criminal justice system to act decisively against this unwanted behavior," Mrasi added.
