NUM WOMEN'S STRUCTURE APPLAUDS THE SWIFT ARREST OF THE 22-YEAR-OLD MALE IN CONNECTION WITH THE BRUTAL MURDER OF A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT EMNDENI SOWETO LAST WEEK

Press Statement, 09 April 2020

NUM WOMEN'S STRUCTURE APPLAUDS THE SWIFT ARREST OF THE 22-YEAR-OLD MALE IN CONNECTION WITH THE BRUTAL MURDER OF A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL AT EMNDENI SOWETO LAST WEEK

The National Union of Mineworkers Women's Structure applauds the South African Police Service (SAPS) for the arrest of the 22-year-old alleged perpetrator in connection with the brutal and gruesome murder of a 14-year-old girl found murdered at Emndeni in Soweto last week. The NUM Women's Structure is distraught about the brutal murder of the learner during the lockdown period.

It is alleged that the girl learner went to a local shop on Thursday, 02 April 2020 in Dobsonville, and on her return home she realized that she forgot some items, she then went back to the shop and unfortunately she didn’t return home.

The family went on a search, unfortunately, they couldn’t find her, subsequently, she was reported missing at the local police station. The learner was found on Friday, 03 April 2020 raped and brutally murdered in a bush at Emndeni Extension in Soweto.

"We believe that swift arrest of the perpetrator will bring some form of relief to the family and that the other alleged perpetrator that is still on the run will also be arrested and both face the law. This should send a clear message to all evil monsters and murderers that the lockdown will not stop the law from taking its course as the lockdown is equally not a time to give evil thoughts space," said Mathapelo Khanye, NUM Women's Structure National Secretary.
