NUM Press Statement, 14 December 2015
NUM appreciates efforts of the good Samaritans at Aurora in Orkney
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) appreciates the positive and inspiring efforts of the Gift of the Givers and other small businesses in Matlosana that have rallied to assist the abandoned Aurora miners in Orkney. The Gift of Givers and other small businesses will be giving food parcels to the Aurora miners tomorrow (15 December 2015) so that they can have a good Christmas and new year.
The NUM delegation will be led by Joseph Montisetse, Deputy President and Solly Phetoe, Cosatu Deputy General Secretary.
The NUM truly appreciate the help that these good Samaritans are giving to Aurora miners.
The North Gauteng High Court this coming Thursday (17 December 2015) will be handing down the final judgement on Bhana family Investments.
The NUM is appealing to the Aurora directors and the Bhana family to stop wasting money on expensive lawyers and pay these poor mineworkers money that is due to them. Thousands of these workers are still trapped in abject poverty, they have no food, have no running water and some of those workers are sick and others have passed on due to stress created by these evil and heartless people.
The NUM appeals to the law enforcement agencies and the justice department to ensure that cases against Aurora Directors are given the necessary attention and finalised.
The NUM will do whatever it can to make sure that its members are paid what is due to them.
