The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has today signed a two-year wage agreement with Eskom in the early hours of this morning.

The agreement shall apply from 1 July 2016 to 30 June 2018 to all permanent employees employed in the Bargaining Unit at Eskom

The provisions of the wage agreement also include, among others, the following adjustments:


*1. Wage Increase*

A salary increase of 8,5 across the board for all employees at the highest scale is granted, and an increase of 10% is granted for all employees at the lowest or minimum scale. In year two, a salary increase of 8,5% across the board for all employees at the highest scale is granted, and an increase of 10% is granted for all employees at the lowest or minimum scale.

*2. Housing Allowance*

The current housing allowance R2 600 will be increased by 10% to R260. In year two, the housing allowance will be increased by R140
totalling R3000 per month

*3. Maternity leave*

Five months’ paid maternity leave applies.

*4. Eskom Death Benefit Fund*

An amount of R20 000 will be paid for the employee and spouse and R15 000 will be paid for children under 21.

*5. Income Differentials*

The NUM is happy that Eskom has acknowledged that the apartheid wage that exists within the company will be eliminated with specific timelines.
