NUM opposes the take over of Anglo American Platinum operations by Sibanye Gold.

NUM Media Statement,  19 October  2016

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) does not welcome  take over  of Anglo American Platinum operations in Rustenburg by Sibanye Gold at the start of November this year.

There is nothing to celebrate about the take over because we know that the company under the stewardship of Neil " Mr retrenchments" Froneman will soon issue Section 189 with the intention to retrench. As the NUM, we know him as Mr retrenchments, not Mr. Fix-it. Sibanye Gold's CEO, Neal Froneman, makes profits by focusing on retrenchments. That is his strategy and it is the reason that he hates NUM with a passion because we are always opposed to his strategy of  retrenchments. This man is not a messiah in the mining industry. He makes profits by retrenching black mineworkers.

Sibanye Gold is embarking on a campaign to eliminate workers rights and implement anti-people and anti-workers policies. This company has heightened its attack against the NUM. Our members are threatened, attacked, killed, and assaulted in their operations and nothing happen to the perpetrators. The unilateral revocation of collective agreements at Sibanye Gold against the NUM is happening. Sibanye Gold wants to annihilate the NUM.

The NUM cannot celebrate capitalist barbarism at Sibanye Gold. The company is currently thriving on dividing black mineworkers with the intention to make the profit. This company is destroying jobs in the mining industry.
