The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) President Piet Matosa will address a mass meeting at Sibanye Gold Cooke 3 operation tomorrow (15 June 2017) at 12 pm in Westonaria.
This follows threats by Sibaye Gold to dismiss workers due to an illegal strike by alleged AMCU members.
The strike was triggered by worker resentment at a company drive to root out illegal miners, who pilfer gold from its shafts after gaining access by employee collusion. Amcu members are opposing a ban on food supply to underground workers, of which the purpose is to eliminate activities of illegal mining at the mine. Most workers launched complain that the illegal miners were demanding food from them.
The mass meeting will take place as follows:
