NUM Press Statement, 31 December 2017
NUM Kwazulu-Natal Region wishes all its members happy and prosperous new year
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in KwaZulu-Natal Region would like to wish all its members and their families a revolutionary and prosperous new year (2018).
"We understand that 2017 was a very challenging year, some lost their jobs through retrenchments, dismissals, and ill-health related to occupational diseases, we, therefore, want to say to them the struggle continues. Some passed on through fatalities that could have been avoided. We, therefore, wish to extend our deepest condolences to families members who lost their beloved ones this year," said Muzikayise Zakwe, NUM Kwazulu-Natal Regional Secretary.
"We want to assure our members in this region that NUM will continue to be a most reliable union that represents its members in the mining, energy and construction sector in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in 2018. We are ready to fight against any barbaric and unfair dismissals directed to our members in all sectors allocated to us. We have also noted that some employers are planning to reduce workers in order to increase profit in the year 2018. Our message to those employers is that NUM will fight any form of labour reduction by every means at our disposal," Zakwe added.
We want to congratulate in advance all 2017 matriculates who will pass their exams in the province of KwaZulu-Natal and wishes them good luck in their future endeavours.
The NUM Kwazulu-Natal Region wishes to congratulate the newly elected ANC leadership after the 54th Congress, led by Comrade Cyril Matamela Ramaphosa as its President.
