NUM KWAZULU-NATAL REGION CALLS FOR INCOMPETENT MANAGERS TO BE DEMOTED.

Press Statement, 20 April 2018

NUM KWAZULU-NATAL REGION CALLS FOR INCOMPETENT MANAGERS TO BE DEMOTED.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in Kwazulu-Natal is shocked by the continuous reshuffle of incompetent managers by the Eskom General Manager (GM) in the province.

"It has always been our position that those senior managers who are not performing must be demoted like what Eskom do to bargaining unit employees. The NUM is shocked that the GM decided to transfer a manager with an allegation of corruption and maladministration to Maintenance and Operations where more ethical and clean governance is required," Vusi Manana, NUM Eskom Full-time Shop Steward

NUM has now realized that Eskom in KwaZulu-Natal has no passion to serve Kwa-Zulu Natal community but to continue milk Eskom without providing efficient service to the public.

NUM has observed the following concerns:
1. Over the past 10 years, Eskom KZN has changed 4 General Managers
2. The Eskom KZN is not serious in addressing issues of safety especially when it comes to its business partners ( contractors)
3. The finance department has been always headed by one person but all failures she remained innocent
4. Currently, there are a number of investigations that are being conducted against senior managers and this indicates the level incompetency these managers have but they are rewarded with positions from one department to another.

NUM will meet this weekend and conclude its plan on embarking on the mass action it has proposed earlier this month. NUM will embark on a mass action on the 12 the May 2018 to fight the following:

. The continuous workforce optimization which we view as indirect retrenchment.
. The signing of IPPs that seeks to destroy work, like when they decided to close the Ingagane and Colenso power stations.
. The continuous rotation of incompetence managers as it compromises quality leadership.
The Pexco representation that is undermining the capability of more black African females especially from KwaZulu-Natal
The recent occasion where employees were served with alleged rotten food in Eskom training center.
The unilateral changes of what we bargained especially by this Eskom department called real estate

We remain clear if Eskom cannot put Kwa-Zulu Natal and its employees at center we will continue to fight to deal with these injustices.
