The NUM position on the signed wage agreement  between Anglo American Platinum and AMCU
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) took a conscious and deliberate decision not to sign the wage agreement with Anglo American Platinum because  it does not benefit the mineworkers in the platinum belt. The NUM believes that even in the current signed  3-year wage agreement the underground workers would still have not achieved the R12,500 wage increase,  instead, they will only get R11, 500.

NUM statement on Sibanye Platinum Bermuda of Anglo Platinum's Rustenburg Mines and Aquarius Platinum
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in addition to the statement it released earlier about Sibanye Gold taking over Anglo Platinum operations in Rustenburg is aware of the Competition Tribunal of South Africa’s decision to approve the two transactions on the 16th March 2016; the union participated in the public hearings held on the 14th March 2016 and was concerned about the subsequent job losses which would result in Anglo American Platinum putting the mines under care and maintenance

Its birth was facilitated by comrades Cyril Ramaphosa who rose to be its first General Secretary, James Motlatsi who turned to be its first President, and Elijah Barayi who became its Vice President and later the President of Cosatu in 1985 when the federation was formed. porn
