The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) will hold a mass meeting at Sibanye Gold Cooke Operations tomorrow (12 October 2016)  at 4 pmWestonaria. Joseph Montisetse, NUM Deputy President will address the mass meeting at Cooke 3 hostel. This is after NUM members were attacked and injured by alleged AMCU members last week and led to the death of our member Ranthimo Nkosi. The media is invited to attend and report about the mass meeting.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in the Western Cape strongly condemns the persisting racists’ practices in certain work places in our province such as CSV Construction. In the immediate the CSV construction company which members of NUM are employees has been engaged in such a backward and apartheid practises. White bigots in the company have called our members “Kaffirs”.

NUM is angry that NUM branch leaders at Cooke operations were attacked and critically injured.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is extremely angry and saddened after two of its branch leaders at Sibanye Gold Cooke operations in Westonaria were attacked and critically injured while going to work this morning. We can confirm that two NUM branch at Cooke operations were attacked and critically injured while going to work this morning by alleged AMCU members who blockaded all the main gates of Cooke operations and threatening workers not to go to work.

NUM signed a 2-year agreement with Impala Platinum Limited (Refineries)
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) signed a 2- year wage agreement with Impala Platinum Limited (Refineries). This agreement is effective from the 1st of July 2016 to 30 June 2018. The NUM wishes to express its sincere gratitude to its members at Impala Platinum Limited (Refineries) for the manner in which they behaved during the negotiation period until they gave us the mandate to sign this agreement.

Post NUM Youth Structure National Committee Statement,  03 October 2016
The National Union of Mineworkers Youth Structure (NUM-YS) held its ordinary National Committee Meeting on the 29-30 September 2016 in its College, Elijah Barayi Memorial Training Centre in Midrand. The meeting received organisational and Political reports. The meeting engaged on the recent local government elections and the current political challenges facing the movement received a special attention particularly the issue of free education for the poor.

The National Union of Mineworkers was founded in 1982.

Its birth was facilitated by comrades Cyril Ramaphosa who rose to be its first General Secretary, James Motlatsi who turned to be its first President, and Elijah Barayi who became its Vice President and later the President of Cosatu in 1985 when the federation was formed. porn
