NUM Media Statement, 13 October 2016
66 NUM members have staged a sit in underground at Gold One Modder East Operations in Springs.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) can confirm that 66 Rock Drill Operators who are members of the NUM have staged a sit in underground since 11 October 2016 at Gold One Modder East Operations in Springs.
The Rock Drill Operators are demanding R250 bonus per blast. The RDO’s said that they will not come out of underground until their demands are met. They are also demanding that the management must not take disciplinary actions against them when they come out underground.
The NUM is extremely worried about the health and safety of its members who are staging a sit in underground. The mine management has refused to listen to the demands of our members. We are calling on the Minister of Mineral Resources Mosebenzi Zwane to intervene as the health of our members is not good at all.
