NUM condemns Eskom executives fat bonuses
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) strongly condemns Eskom executives for awarding themselves fat incentive bonuses of 25%, the middle managers get 16% and while the lowest paid employees receives only 10% of incentive bonus which is shared by the majority of workers.
"When Eskom goes to Nersa and cry foul that it does not have money to finance its projects to keep the country alight is a blatant lie. The increases that Nersa give to Eskom is utilised to finance Eskom executives annual bonuses and self-enrichment schemes," says Peter Bailey, NUM Health and Safety Chairperson.
As the NUM, we call on Nersa not to grant Eskom any increases until its executives and board of directors have resigned. The looting of state resources at the expense of the general public is totally unacceptable.
Eskom is in serious financial woes and it cannot continue to award these fat bonuses to the executives.
