NUM welcomes the court ruling on the killing of its members
The murder case that started after the murder of two NUM members in Carletonville on the 22nd November 2012 has been finalized in the Oberholzer Regional Court in Carletonville today, 31st August 2015.
This is the case against six AMCU members who were involved in the killing that took place next to the NUM branch offices in one of Harmony mine’s Kusasalethu operation.
At the time of the incident, the NUM Branch leadership was in the office.
A total of five out of six has been found guilty, two for murder and were sentenced to twelve years in prison, three found guilty for Public violence and each received suspended sentence of five years, one was acquitted.
“The sentence handed down today has vindicated NUM as it has always said that its members are harassed, intimidated and killed for merely associating themselves with the Union.
This sentence will send a very strong and vivid message to all those who find it difficult to tolerate competition”, said Mbuyiseli Hibana NUM Carletonville Regional Secretary.
The NUM is now waiting for the finalization of another case that is sitting on the 2nd of September 2015 against the members of the same union who stripped naked a female member of NUM in front of the Company management.
