A mineworker dies at Zibulo's Colliery in Mpumalanga

Press Statement, 08 September 2020

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has learnt with the deepest shock the death of one mineworker at Zibulo Colliery in Mpumalanga. It is reported that the incident happened yesterday. It is alleged that the deceased died due to fog and his colleague was injured and taken to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.

The NUM conveys its deepest condolences to the families and comrades of the deceased and calls upon the authorities to ensure that safety is prioritized. This should ring bells to the mining industry in which many workers die every year to ensure that our mines are safe. We should strive for zero fatality by investing in safety equipment and ensuring that our workers are generally safe.
