Hiring of gangs by Good-Hope construction must be investigated.
NUM Press Statement, 10 April 2015
Hiring of gangs by Good-Hope construction must be investigated.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in the Western Cape region condemns the hiring of Gangs by Good-Hope Construction as securities in their sites.
The motive of the hiring gangs as the securities is done to intimidate workers to scare them in fighting for their rights.
As the NUM, we view the action by Good-Hope construction as thuggery of the highest order. In fact, Good-hope Construction is one of the worst employers in the construction sector.
Key amongst the reasons is the fact that this is the same company that continues to subject our members to working without protective equipment, endless layoffs, none payment of the Building Industry Bargaining Council stamps in terms of the main agreement.
As the NUM, we are going to roll-out mass action against the use of gangs and none compliance by the employer.
Whilst we condemn this barbaric act by Good-Hope Construction, we also call upon the Department of Labour to conduct a full inspection of the Good-Hope Construction sites in the province.
