Mineworker dies at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu Mine
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) demands an immediate investigation into the cause of death of a mineworker earlier today at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu mine in Carletonville.
The NUM is highly concerned at the rate at which fatal incidents are happening in the mining industry. The NUM reiterates its call that there is a need to amend the Mine Health and Safety Act so that those who are found to be responsible for fatalities in the mining industry must be arrested, prosecuted and sent to jail. The mining bosses who are found to be negligent must be held accountable for all the accidents.
Already, more than 45 mineworkers have died this year alone in mining-related deaths across the country. That is highly unacceptable.
