More than 500 NUM members at Koornfontein Mine to embark on a strike this coming Monday.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) members at Koornfontein Mine will embark on a strike next week Monday as they are concerned about the future of the mine and the nonpayment of their salaries that was promised to be paid today.
"We will down tools this coming Monday and we will not go back to work until our salaries are paid," said Sbusiso Mahlangu, NUM Branch Secretary at Koornfontein.
The NUM is the majority union at the mine and has 512 members. The total workforce is 612.
The NUM can also confirm that workers at Optimum Coal Mine have not received their salaries this morning. They will also not go to work until their salaries are paid.
The Optimum Coal Mine and Koornfontein Mine are both owned by the Gupta Family.
