NUM and SACP joint march to Eskom, BIBC and the Department of Labour

Press Alert, 06 July 2018

NUM and SACP joint march to Eskom, BIBC and the Department of Labour

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Western Cape will jointly march to Eskom, Building Industry Bargaining Council (BIBC) and the Department of Labour. Eskom will receive the memorandum at the regional offices and management of both the BIBC and the Department of Labour will receive the memorandum at the BIBC building.

Members of the SACP and NUM in the Western Cape are taking to the street saying NO to looming electricity tariffs increase, NO to IPPs, calling for a review of the bloated executive and the recall of Phakamani Radebe where Eskom is concerned. We further call for a change in the membership system and an end to manipulation of membership funds by the BIBC. The March also demands the improvement of the capacity and investigation on the inspectorate of the Department of Labour.

Details of the March are as follows:

Date: 07 July 2018

Time: 10h00

Assembly point: Parking- opposite Midestad Mall. Bellville. (Behind Eskom Regional Offices).

Route: From the parking to the Eskom Regional Offices on 81 Voortrekker Road, Bellville. March to 60 Voortreker Road, Bellville and March back to assemble point.

These issues affect both the workers and working class alike hence, we are confronting them in a united broad front of the left forces with no hesitation.
