NUM commemorates the 30th anniversary of the passing struggle stalwart comrade Joe Slovo

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) urges its members to attend and participate in the South African Communist Party (SACP) 30th annual remembrance of Comrade Joe Slovo. The commemoration of the struggle icon takes place today, Monday the 6th of January 2025 at Avalon Cemetery in Soweto.

Comrade Joe Slovo, a prominent anti-apartheid leader and the first General Secretary of the SACP after its unbanning in 1990 is celebrated for his contributions to the liberation struggle against oppressive brutal apartheid.

As the NUM we are continuing to recognise and honour the unparalleled contributions he made to the liberation of South Africa.

Comrade Slovo was instrumental and a central figure in dismantling the oppressive apartheid system. The NUM is urging all its members to attend the commemoration on Monday in big numbers to respect this fallen hero, of which we are still drawing lessons from in this trying times.
