NUM concludes a 3-year minimum wage agreement with Sasol Mining
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) , Ceppwawu, Sacwu and Solidarity have concluded a 3-year minimum wage agreement with Sasol Mining. Unfortunately, AMCU did not sign the wage agreement and they went on strike.
Clause 2.8 of the wage agreement said that a Joint Working Committee (JWC) will be formed and to deal with Minimum wage and AMCU was not part of the JWC . The Joint Working Committee has made recommendation, and all parties except AMCU, agreed as follows regarding minimum wage;
· A minimum salary will be increased from R7 300 per month to R8 300, effective 1st of December 2016.
· A minimum salary increase from R8 300 to R8 800 per month effective 1st July 2017
· A minimum salary increase from R8 800 to R9 300 per month, effective 1st July 2018
Employees who are earning between R8 300 and R10 723 per month will receive 7% or R700 increase, whichever is greater effective from the 1st of December 2016.
Employees who will benefit from the above-mentioned increase also benefited from increases agreed to in the wage agreement.
