NUM concludes a three-year wage agreement with Harmony Gold

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) signed a 3-year wage agreement today with Harmony Gold at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.

The duration of this agreement shall be a period of 3 years from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2024 and shall remain in force and effect until amended or replaced by a new agreement.

Harmony Gold agreed to pay the following increases over the 3 years from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2024.

Category 4-8 surface and underground workers

Year 1-R1000

Year 2-R1000

Year 3-R1000

lower-level officials (B1-B4)

Year 1-R1000/6%

Year 2-R1000/6%

Year 3-R1000/6%

Miners and Artisans

Year 1-6% 

Year 2-6% or CPI

Maternity Leave

Harmony Gold will provide female employees with 6 months paid maternity leave in terms of applicable policies and procedures.

Paternity Leave

Harmony Gold will provide male employees with 5 days paid leave and 5 days unpaid leave per leave cycle subject to section 25 A of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act No 75 of 1997 "the BCEA" and applicable policies and procedures.

“The NUM wishes to express its sincere gratitude to its members at Harmony Gold for how they behaved during the negotiation period until they gave us the mandate to sign this wage agreement. Our members are excited and they gave us the mandate to sign a wage agreement,” said William Mabapa, NUM Acting General Secretary.

NUM members at Harmony Gold are excited that the wage agreement was concluded without any strike.
