NUM congratulates the matric class of 2024 for achieving the highest national pass rate of 87.3%

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) takes this opportunity to congratulate all Matric Class of 2024 for achieving an 87.3% pass rate – surpassing the 82.9% recorded in 2023. This is an improvement of 4.4 percentage points.

"We are very proud as the NUM because every province improved on its performance from 2023, and every province achieved a pass rate above 84%. This is the highest pass rate in our country, and as the NUM, we congratulate the Matric Class of 2024," said Mpho Phakedi, the NUM Acting General Secretary.

"To those matriculants who have not made it, they must not give up, they still have what it takes to get a Senior Certificate and get distinctions. They must start preparing now. They must study hard and they will pass," Phakedi added.

The NUM also takes this opportunity to congratulate the African National Congress (ANC) for hosting a successful 113 Anniversary of Existence rally at Khayelitsha last week.

The ANC has shown maturity and accepted the shortfalls of its reality of existence which is to respond to the social ills affecting the majority citizens of this country. It is our hope as the NUM that the movement this time around would walk the talk and address issues that are affecting the masses.

We further wish the ANC well in its endeavour's to for the year 2025; we note the six-priority action for 2025 and looking forward for action indeed. Amongst the six our main interest is on the third priority; we will be watching with keen interest.
