NUM fully support Diro Resources employees demanding their outstanding salaries

NUM Press Statement,  13 September 2016

NUM fully support Diro Resources employees demanding their outstanding salaries

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) fully  support the demands of Diro Resources employees who are on strike demanding  their salaries which had not been paid since May 2016. Diro Resources is a Manganese and iron-ore producer based in Kathu Northern Cape.

The NUM is aware of the business rescue process taking place which in our view it will compromise what is due to workers given the fact that other creditors such as banks are being owed by Diro Resources.

The company has been deducting money from the employee's salaries under the pretext that the money is paid to their provident fund. The company has not paid over Provident Fund contributions it deducts from its employees either. We learned with the disgrace that Diro Resources has not registered its employees with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). The NUM subscriptions have also not been paid.We have since reported this matter to the Liberty Provident Fund and Department of Labour.

We call upon the company directors to avail themselves and attend to reasonable demands of these workers and commit as to when they will pay monies of the workers. This is the only source of their income.
