NUM in Kwazulu-Natal is disappointed by Eskom's decision to retrench

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in Kwazulu-Natal is shocked to learn from the article published on Fin24 on the 03/04/2018 that suggests that Eskom will be embarking on retrenchment process. In an email sent to all employees, Eskom said they are rolling out a plan to manage our employee numbers to optimal levels

"We, therefore, want to make it clear to Eskom that era of treating employees as commodity and loss in the business are long over. We will take the fight back to Eskom equal to the task they want to bring on us. Eskom must know that NUM will be embarking on a mass action in the next 14 days to expose the corrupt barbaric attack Eskom is trying to display," said Vusi Manana, NUM Eskom Full-time shop steward.

"We are not opposing Eskom to mitigate the damage made by the previous management and its board. Our stand still remains that Eskom has more than 70 General Managers and 90 M18/16/15 junior managers and we have never heard what Eskom's plan to cut numbers on top yet these senior managers are expected to carry the shareholder compact and over the past 5years they have failed to carry their mandate but were never penalized, it will be very much amazing that now the very poor working class will be the only sacrifice to save for GEs bonuses Manana ad

NUM will this week meet Eskom management to formally inform them of our action plan, we will paint New Germany red and we will extend the invitation to mining, construction sectors to join us as this action seek to extend failures even in mining and construction sector where we are organizing.
