NUM Kimberley region calls for PMG mine to stop charging its members and resolve its problem with Tsantsabane Taxi Association
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in the Kimberley Region is angered by the attitude of the PMG Mine situated in the Tsantsabane Local Municipality under ZF Mgcawu District in the Northern Cape Province. This is after the mine has terminated a commercial agreement with Tsantsabane Taxi Association to transport employees to work.
The PMG Mine decided to terminate the commercial agreement with immediate effect because they bought their transport which will be used to transport employees to work.
This angered the Tsantsabane Taxi Association and embarked on blocking company vehicles. The mine instead of assisting their employees threatened employees by telling them that they will be charged if they fail to report to work. Without considering the safety of employees the employer only thought of their production.
"The NUM Kimberley Region tried with no luck to engage the employer instead they decided to continue with their arrogant behaviour. As we speak, our members are charged and disciplinary cases are continuing regardless," said Mosepedi Sanane, NUM Kimberley Regional Secretary.
"This company treat its own employees as slaves with very low benefits. It does not even respect the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) instructions. They are the worst company in the Kimberley Region to work for and their Health and Safety record is dismal," Sanane added.
