NUM Kimberley Region is worried about retrenchments at KEM JV

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in Kimberley Region is extremely angered and annoyed by the inhuman act of the company KEM JV that is contemplating to retrench 150 now and another in December 2018. KEM JV is a diamond company based in Kimberley.

"The NUM and the company have engaged in fruitless meetings under the watchful eyes of CCMA on the issue of retrenchments. The CCMA commissioner instructed the company and the labour unions to meet separately without his involvement so that we can narrow issues," said Cornelius Manhe, NUM Kimberley Regional Secretary.

"What puzzles us is that the company is negotiating in bad faith. They failed to convince the NUM that the retrenchment is legitimate.
They failed to provide us with the relevant information that will assist the process. Therefore as NUM, we will fight with everything that is in our power to defend our members from this intransigent company," Manhe said.
