NUM members at ASA Dilokong Mine are back to surface.

NUM Press Statement, 27 October 2015

NUM members at ASA Dilokong Mine are back to surface.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) can confirm that its 500 members who downed tools last week and remained underground at ASA Dilokong mine near Burgersfort in Limpopo came back to surface this morning at 1 am. NUM Deputy President Joseph Montisetse went to fetch them.
“I can confirm that I went to fetch them underground and they reached the surface this morning at 1 am. They all came out singing, united and vowed to continue with the strike until the mine management addresses their demands. They also vowed to defend the NUM with their lives,” Montisetse said.
The NUM members are still demanding the following:

  1. The immediate removal of the HR Manager who is above pension age but working on a fixed term contract of more than two years.
  2. The company must commit a date to declare ESOP’s for the workers.
  3. Health and Safety representatives must be empowered underground. It is totally unacceptable that when Health and Safety representatives raise safety issues underground the company charges them.
  4. Workers demand that the company must withdraw unconditionally the spurious charges levelled against the NUM branch chairperson, branch secretary and the deputy secretary.

The NUM is fully behind its members at ASA Dilokong mine and it will make sure that its member’s demands are addressed.
