NUM members to picket outside Afrisam's Ulco offices in Kimberley.

NUM Press Statement, 02 February 2016

NUM members to picket outside Afrisam's Ulco offices in Kimberley.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) Kimberley Region will stage a protest march against Afrisam today, 04th February 2016. NUM members are angered by white supremacy and highly dismayed and disturbed by the manner in which Afrisam management embraces and protects Racism.

This stems from the three incidents involving different white employees who referred to fellow black employees as “baboons” and “goeders” (things). Instead of taking drastic action against these perpetrators, the management chose to accept mere apology despite the fact that these perpetrators have admitted and even found guilty at the disciplinary hearings.

This company adopted separate disciplinary processes for black and white employees, our leadership is being victimised left, right and centre and yet management applies white supremacy gambit that protects white employees from being dismissed despite the degree of misconduct committed.

We, therefore, demand the immediate dismissal of these racists Willem Lubbe, Daan Saaiman, Buck Botha, Thomas Redelinghuys and Frans Brand for calling blacks “baboons” and “things.

The union further demands that the company should refrain from union bashing, unfair labour practices and victimising its leadership. We further demand that the current General Manager (Angus Towell) and the two HR Officers i.e. Sello Nkotoane and Lebogang Moseki be removed from their positions with immediate effect.

NUM, therefore, vows to fight tooth and nail to ensure that these racist elements are removed from this company.

The details of the march are as follows:

Date: 04 February 2016

Time: 12h30

Venue: The march will start at Ulco sports ground and shall proceed to Afrisam Main Gate where a memorandum will be handed to management at 12h30.

The media is welcome to attend and report.
