NUM national women structure commemorates 16 days of activism against gender based violence

The NUM National Women Structure commemorates 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence in Western Cape Region under the theme ”Focus on ending GBV in the World of Work focus on the informed Working Women”.

Women and children continue to bear brunt of violence, they continue to bear the brunt of violence, discrimination, poverty and patriarchy. Women and children are on a daily basis, confronted with the scourge of gender based violence, a disease that has to be eradicated by all means. This scourge of violence has changed its face where it no longer attacks only women and children but also the LGBTQI communities.

As the women in the NUM, we will be commemorating the 16 days with an intended goal of creating a comfortable space for the LGBTQI members in and out of the working environment, and fight to make sure they are being recognised in all spheres of lives. We are saying gender based violence is borne mainly out of power unto the next person.

Convention 190 and recommendation 206 were adopted by the ILO in June 2019 and South Africa has not yet committed itself despite the rising incidents of GBV, with such, we are allowing these ill monsters behaviour to continue feeding itself. It is time that we each take a stand and outroot this behaviour by taking a different approach.
