NUM PWV REGION DECLARES ITS FULL SUPPORT FOR THE NUM NEGOTIATING TEAM AT ESKOM
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in PWV Region declares its unwavering support to the NUM Negotiating Team which is entering its second round of wage negotiations with Eskom. The region also supports the sentiment echoed by the Eskom National Shopstewards Council in calling for the resignation of Phakamani Hadebe and Jabu Mabuza. We are fully aware that zero percent increase by this regressive Eskom Board of Directors is informed by the narrow understanding that Eskom is classified as Essential Service Provider and that Eskom workers are precluded from embarking on a protected strike. We are warning EXCO, the Eskom Board and the Department of Energy Minister to come to their senses and stop this game of playing with workers' emotions. NUM will not tolerate Eskom's intransigent behavior in these negotiations and we are calling upon the Eskom Negotiating Team to approach this round of negotiations with the high level of sobriety if it takes workers' interests seriously this morning.
