NUM signed a three-year wage agreement with Exxaro Coal Mpumalanga (Matla Colliery)

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has signed a three-year wage agreement with Exxaro Coal Mpumalanga (Matla Colliery) at Exxaro's head office in Pretoria today.

The actual basic salaries of employees and the minimums of each grade will be adjusted as follows:
. 6.5% with effect from 1 July 2024
. 7% with effect from 1 July 2025
. 7% with effect from 1 July 2026

Housing Allowance
The Housing Allowance (applicable to those employees who qualify in terms of the relevant Company policy) will increase as follows:

7% with effect from 1 July 2026.

Wage gap investigation

The parties commit to investigating the wage gap within the different salary bands of the bargaining unit employees. The first business of this task team is to draft the terms of reference, which will be used as a guide for the investigation.

NUM Highveld Regional Chairperson said: "This is indeed a victory for our members, considering the current CPI, which is 2.8%. We thank our members' patience and the negotiation team led by the NUM Highveld Region Deputy Chairperson for achieving this wage agreement."
