NUM slams Goldfields over retrenchments at South Deep Mine

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is concerned over Goldfields `s intention to review 500 jobs at South Deep Mine.

NUM `s position is very clear as outlined by the General Secretary of NUM: "We reject any job losses, we are told that more than 500 workers might be affected. Recently two people had been killed and now they are destroying those who are still alive through retrenchment which in the long run will affect their livelihood and lives. Goldfields promised more permanent jobs when they introduced the unpopular 4x4 shift," said Frans Baleni.
