NUM welcomes the departure of former Eskom COO, Mr Jan Oberholzer

Press Statement, 19 July 2023

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) welcomes the departure of former Eskom COO, Mr Jan Oberholzer. The NUM believed that his departure was delayed for unknown reasons, infact Eskom didn't deserve Mr Oberholzer. Under him, Eskom and the country have experienced stage 8 of load shedding that was hidden from the public,  NUM is resolute in saying that Mr Oberholzer is the reason why load shedding was perpetuated endlessly.
It was during the time of both Oberholzer and De Ruyter that R500 Million was given to Fidelity without following due processeses. The quietness of paragons of clean governance is very loud  on the matter of R500 million. The NUM is calling for those paragons to make the same noise they made against Matshela Koko and Brian Molefe.
The NUM believes that the morale in Eskom will be high after the departure of Oberholzer, who was occupying a position that was not even on the structure of Eskom, just like the COO position, the position he was occupying currently was created for him
