NUM Press Statement, 19 March 2018
NUM welcomes the postponement of the Mining Charter court case
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) welcomes the postponement by the North Gauteng High Court of an application by the Chamber of Mines, NUM and seven mining community networks against the Mining Charter.
The NUM agreed to the postponement of the Mining Charter court case because we demanded in court that the NUM must be engaged as a stakeholder in future negotiations concerning the charter.
We felt that President Cyril Ramaphosa, Chamber of Mines and the Department of Mineral Resources were engaging one another without involving other stakeholders like the NUM.
