NUM welcomes the return of workers back to work at Medupi Power Station

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is very pleased to announce that  1,700 workers who were suspended and 197 workers who were dismissed at Medupi Power Station will now go back to work tomorrow (15 April 2015).
 
The NUM was in the forefront to make sure that the suspended and dismissed workers are reinstated with full pay.
 
The NUM which is part of the Leadership Partnership Forum (LPF) has been engaging in the last few days with the objective of resolving the issues that led to the unprotected strike by workers on site on the 25 March 2015 as well as the other issues that arose subsequent to the march.
 
Reinstatement of workers
 
All employees to return to work on the 15th April
2015.
 
Payment of workers
 
All employees will return to site and be paid in full
as per the normal rules for the period from 25 March
2015 to 14 March 2015.
 
 A Leadership Partnership Forum (LPF) task team  will be established to investigate what led to the unprotected strike of 25th March 2015.  The task team may enlist the help of an independent party to carry out its duties. The  task team to report the findings and recommendations to the LPF. The task team will agree on the timelines and provide feedback to the LPF.
 
Allowances
 
The relevant structures to finalise all outstanding allowances issues including the 16 HOURS payment for project long weekend travelling.  Contractor senior management has been tasked to investigate what was paid, by which contractor, why was it paid and why was the payment discontinued. If there are no valid grounds for discontinuing the payment then the 16 hours allowance should be brought back.Contractor senior management to be ready to report back to LPF by 27 April 2015.
