NUM welcomes the verified and audited results conducted by the Chamber of Mines on AMCU's stop orders.

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) welcomes the verified and audited process conducted by the Chamber of Mines regarding the boxes of AMCU application forms presented to the three Gold producers AngloGold Ashanti, Harmony and Sibanye Gold.

The NUM welcomes the results of the verification process. The NUM is shocked but not surprised that over 6 000 stop orders that were submitted by AMCU were invalid. Some of the members went back to the NUM and others were people who were unemployed. The other stop orders were duplicates and the NUM view that as fraudulent activities. That is unacceptable.

In the statement released by the Chamber of Mines today, "the audit revealed that 95% of the 6,510 submissions received are not currently valid for a variety of reasons. In total, 308 additional membership applications submitted by AMCU were found to be valid and are being processed. These include a number of new applications that have not been previously submitted."

The NUM is calling for an independent verification process to be conducted by the platinum companies in the in the platinum belt. The NUM fully supports the same verification and audited process that was conducted by the Gold Producers.

Lastly, we can, therefore, conclude that the NUM is still the majority union whether AMCU likes it or not. We hope AMCU will accept these verified and audited results conducted by the Chamber of Mines. We must all focus on current wage negotiations because our members are fighting for a living wage.
