Press Statement, 04 July 2020
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in the Western Cape Region wishes to add its consternation on the ill-timed, gruesome and deliberate termination of the life of the SACP Brian Bunting District Secretary Cde Siya Siswana.
The unprovoked attack on Comrade Siswana and his family suggests the extent at which the poor are vulnerable to criminals even in the confines of their home.
We join the vanguard Party in mourning a life well-lived. Comrade Siswana was a true embodiment of Communist values with unmatched humility and commitment to struggles of the working class.
His life is terminated at a time when the working class is facing a continued onslaught from captains of the industry, who exploit the conditions brought by the pandemic to intensify their exploitation of working people.
We recapitulate demands for intensified investigation and most critically calls for counselling for the surviving of the family. The NUM Western Cape Region would like to convey its deepest condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of the deceased during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.
