NUM Press Statement, 08 July 2015
NUM wishes the SACP well on its 3rd Special National Congress
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) would like to wish the South African Communist Party (SACP) a successful special congress which began on Tuesday, 7 July 2015 at the University of Johannesburg.
We hope this special congress will continue with the Party’s tradition of engaging in frank and robust debates and will set a tone to the upcoming special congress of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, due to start on Monday, 13 July 2015.
We also trust that the SACP will use this opportunity to reaffirm its role as the vanguard party of the working class that works tirelessly to unite the South African working class.
This Special congress comes at a time when the working class is facing a concerted offensive from the monopoly capital.
The NUM would like to concur with a statement by the current SACP chairperson and former NUM president Senzeni Zokwana when addressing the congress that in reporting about the Farlam Commission Report that the media paid little attention to the killings of the ten workers before 16 August 2012 in Marikana, and that it is a time where the truth must be told.
