Media Statement, 05 August 2024
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in the Highveld Region has noted that Eskom surpassed the Energy Availability Factor by 70%, this is a milestone that must be celebrated by the entire country.
"The hard work of our members resulted in this achievement, the NUM want to put it categorically clear that it is our members who achieved this not some miracle or managers. Our members are Plant Operators, Artisans, Technicians and Engineers, these esteemed members changed the distorted narrative that our members are lazy and don’t know how to operate Eskom plants," said Bizzah Motubatse, NUM Highveld Regional Chairperson.
The NUM also acknowledges the intervention and commitment made by the Minister of Electricity Kgosientso Ramokgopa, he made promises to our members and indeed implemented those promises. The working class needs such leaders it can trust in these difficult times of our revolution.
The NUM in the Highveld Region with more than 10 Power Stations is pleased and appreciative of those committed men and women of Eskom.
The NUM calls on Eskom to focus more on corruption that is done by certain service providers. The union calls for harsher punishment to those who looted the utility and continue to do so without repercussions. We must all defend Eskom and in doing so we protect the economy and jobs.
