Patrice Motsepe must pay back the worker's money.

The National Union Of Mineworkers (NUM) members at  Khumani operation in Northern Cape are extremely angry after the company has  unilaterally deducted R500 from the employees salaries without consultation or agreement effective  from November 2015. This is a gross violation of the Mining Industry's Framework for Peace and Stability in the Mining Industry signed under the auspices of the Former Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe 2013, especially the part on "honour existing and future agreements and policies".

 Khumani operation is a subsidiary of the African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) a company owned by South African Billionaire Patrice Motsepe.

The company has still not paid the workers their hard earned money. We had requested the intervention of Mr. Patrice Motsepe but he has  not intervened. 

The NUM still request Mr. Patrice Motsepe to instruct the company to reverse this decision to deduct the worker's hard-earned money without their permission. 

The latest development within the company is that the company has issued a notice to take away R3 500 which is part of the artisans scarcity allowance.

"The spouses and children's of the mineworkers demand answers as these deductions are having a negative impact on their lives. There was no reason given to deduct money from their salaries. 

We demand that the company must PAY BACK THE MONEY deducted from our member's salaries.  The NUM will soon  embark on a march with the community until the demands of our members are met," said Lucas Phiri, NUM Kimberley Regional Coordinator.
