NUM Press Statement, 07 August 2017
The NUM is worried about allegations of tender irregularities at Eskom KwaZulu-Natal
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is shocked to read in City Press newspaper yesterday about the allegations of irregularities on issuing of tenders of cleaning services at Eskom KwaZulu-Natal.
The NUM is extremely worried about these allegations and we have always suspected foul play in the procurement department.
NUM, therefore, cannot only rely on media reports, we demand that Eskom should establish forensic investigation on the matter and other contracts such as:
1. Bush clearing contractors
2. Operation and maintenance contractors (we see the same contractors repeating themselves with all work in the company).
3. All building contracts to be investigated as Eskom failed last week to account about its buildings in a forum.
It cannot be business as usual where the media has proof of documents that suggest that there was an oversight on alleged tender irregularities. All those allegedly involved should be suspended to allow the investigation to be completed without interference.
The NUM will wait for the report then seek legal opinion on how to deal with the matter.
