Press Statement, 09 April 2018
UNCONDITIONAL APOLOGY OF ALLEGATIONS AND APOLOGY TO SIBANYE GOLD LIMITED DATED
I, Livhuwani Mammburu, the Spokesman of the National Union of Mineworkers (“NUM”), being duly authorised to make this statement, confirm that:
“We are calling on Sibanye Gold to take full responsibility of our member's death after they failed to provide security to protect him. Sibanye Gold management at Cooke operations were informed and warned of a plan to attack our members by these hooligans, but they did nothing. They even refused to call the SAPS to come and protect our members.
The NUM will continue to fight capitalists barbarism in the mining industry that always divides black mineworkers and encourage them to kill one another.
This is an anti-worker and anti-people decision. It is evil and is part of the capitalist barbarism.
The NUM will continue to fight capitalists barbarism in the mining industry that always divides black mineworkers.
