WFTU Africa region congratulates its newly elected women working committee

The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) Africa Region congratulates its newly elected women working committee. The WFTU Africa Region is delighted to commensurate with the constitutional imperative of the organisation that requires every region to establish structures to fulfil the governance pre-requisite.

“We remained emboldened by the residence of the committee geared to tackle the double oppression faced by women both at the workplace and their respective households. We have no doubt that gender mainstreaming issues will be on top of the committee to avert subtle gender based violence and genocides that are mainly affecting women and the youth’ said Maja Mphahlele, WFTU Africa Regional Coordinator.

The newly elected women working committee are:

Sbongile Eunice Ncube from BLLAHWU in Botswana
Leboela Motibeng from LFTU in Lesotho
Matines Balogu from GTUN in Nigeria
Ernestina Hanka Phiri from ZGAW in Zambia
Proud Nyakuni from Zidawu in Zimbabwe
Kgomotso Makupola from NEHAWU in South Africa

It is important that women are given enough opportunities to safeguard the plight of their peer. In general women are associated with care, and to this end, we will make sure that there are coherent programmes to conduct capacity building across the African Region, especially in the countries that are in dire need.

The meeting to elect the working committee has been appraised by plethora of challenges that are confronting eSwatini, Zimbabwe and other countries that are not amenable to divulge rampant social ills that continue to ravage citizens.
